Microsoft's September Event: What to Expect for Surface Products and AI Updates

Microsofts September event hints at new Surface products with a potential Surface Laptop Studio upgrade and Surface Laptop Go 2 refresh. Expect AI-related news and surprises.

Microsoft has scheduled a 'special event' for Thursday, September 21, at 10 AM ET. While details are sparse, the timing suggests a fall hardware event, with a focus on unveiling a new lineup of Surface products. Unfortunately, there won't be a live stream for the event, but you can catch the entire presentation at 1 PM ET via Microsoft's official channels. Additionally, the event will likely be available for viewing on the official Microsoft Surface YouTube channel later on. If you're eager for real-time updates, we'll be running a live blog alongside the morning event.

In contrast to Microsoft's usual October hardware event, they've returned to their traditional late September timeframe this year. Though the company hasn't officially confirmed the agenda, rumors abound regarding a refresh for the popular Surface Laptop Studio hybrid device, expected to receive a substantial performance boost. Furthermore, there's anticipation for the successor to the Surface Laptop Go 2, as the current model sports an aging 11th Gen Intel chipset.

As is customary for Microsoft's annual event, there may be some surprises in store. Will we witness the unveiling of the Surface Pro 9 or the Surface Laptop 5? It's a question that only the event can answer. The aging Surface Studio 2+ desktop could also be due for some much-needed hardware upgrades. Although rumors have circulated about a follow-up to the Surface Duo dual-screen smartphone, it's unlikely to make an appearance during this event.

Given that it's the year 2023 on planet Earth, AI-related announcements are expected. Surface product lead and Windows 11 expert, Panos Panay, recently announced his departure from the company after nearly two decades, having played a pivotal role in promoting AI integration within the operating system.

Last year's event brought us the Surface Studio 2+ all-in-one desktop, the Surface Laptop 5, the Surface Pro 9, and numerous software unveilings. Microsoft also showcased AI integrations within Microsoft Teams, making it an exciting time for AI enthusiasts.
